Inaki Williams, the dynamic forward for Athletic Bilbao, has laid bare the team’s aspirations to secure a coveted spot in European competition for the upcoming season.
This declaration came on the heels of Bilbao’s hard-fought 1-1 draw against Girona, a match in which Williams showcased his scoring prowess by netting the equalizer in the 67th minute, responding to Viktor Tsygankov’s earlier goal for Girona at the 55th minute.
In a post-game interview with Bilbao’s official media channel, Williams expressed his pride in the team’s overall performance throughout the season. He articulated the team’s ambitious goal, stating, “We are looking at European positions. That is our objective. It is what we set at the beginning of the season.” Acknowledging the challenge posed by facing the league leaders, he added, “We were coming to the leader’s house which was not going to be easy, but even so, I do believe that the team played a great game.”
Williams highlighted the team’s resilience, emphasizing, “We didn’t lose face in the game at any time, and in the end, we enjoyed it on the field.” His confidence in Athletic Bilbao’s performance was evident as he concluded, “I think that Athletic Sal, in the end, feels proud of the work we have been doing.”
As it stands, Athletic Bilbao holds the impressive 5th position on the La Liga league table with 25 points, firmly positioning themselves in the race for European qualification.
The team is now gearing up for their next challenge, facing Rayo Vallecano at the San Mamés on Saturday, with the aspiration to continue their strong run and strengthen their bid for a place in European competition.
