The Member of Parliament for Atiwa East in the Eastern Region Abena Osei-Asare has officially submitted her nomination forms to re-contest the upcoming parliamentary primaries.
Scores of party sympathizers and delegates flocked to the party office on Monday (25 December) as the incumbent MP presented the documents to the Constituency’s Parliamentary Elections Committee.
Osei-Asare who doubles as Ghana’s Deputy Minister of Finance used the opportunity to acknowledge the youth group who volunteered to buy her forms after securing them a job.
She also addressed party leadership and delegates, expressing gratitude for their dedicated support over the past years emphasizing the importance of a united front ahead of the 2024 elections.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has set 27 January 2024 to hold its parliamentary primaries in constituencies with sitting Members of Parliament. It is the last internal election as the governing party gears up for the next general elections.
Delegates in Atiwa East have vowed to elect Abena Osei-Asare to bring massive development to the people.
They also believe the experienced politician is the best candidate to lead the party to retain the parliamentary seat and also help increase Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s votes in the constituency come December 7, 2024.
“With her wealth of experience, there is the need to push our MP to continue her development agenda. The projects she has initiated are evident for us to see. From health to education and also formal and informal job creation. This is phenomenal”, one of the delegates said.
“I am a beneficiary of her insurance policy for drivers and other artisans. Her hot meal initiative plus the resources she deploys for BECE candidates has been consistent and for some of us, we think she is the best candidate, at least for now. The party has a huge task to break the eight and so for our constituency I think she is the one to lead and she is the one I will vote for”, another stated.
