Parliament will begin vetting the first set of ministerial nominees presented by President John Dramani Mahama on Monday, January 13, 2025.
The vetting will kick off with Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Member of Parliament for Ajumako-Enyan-Esiam and the current Majority Leader, who has been nominated as the Minister-designate for Finance. Ato Forson’s nomination comes during a challenging economic period for Ghana, with high inflation, rising public debt, and urgent calls for economic reforms.
This constitutional process will be carried out by Parliament’s Appointments Committee, which was formed on January 9, 2025. Following Ato Forson’s vetting, the next nominee to face the committee will be John Abdulai Jinapor, who has been nominated as Minister-designate for Energy. Jinapor, a former Deputy Minister of Energy, is expected to outline his strategies to address Ghana’s ongoing energy sector challenges, including unreliable power supply, renewable energy development, and energy sector debt.
The final nominee for the day will be Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, nominated as Attorney-General and Minister of Justice-designate. Ayine, a seasoned lawyer and academic with previous experience as Deputy Attorney-General, will play a critical role in upholding the rule of law and driving legal reforms in the country. His vetting will highlight his vision for ensuring justice and legal development in Ghana.
