The Office of the Auditor-General has commenced a nationwide audit of the government payroll system, focusing on institutions managed under the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department, including all subvented organizations.

The audit will assess payroll records from Ministries, Departments, Agencies (MDAs), and subvented bodies for the two-year period from January 1, 2023, to December 31, 2024. As part of this initiative, a comprehensive headcount of all staff receiving salaries from the government is expected to be carried out.

In an official statement, the Auditor-General’s office urged full cooperation from all affected institutions to ensure a successful and timely audit.

“The Office of the Auditor-General calls on all institutions to provide unhindered access to books, returns, and other documents, including computerized and electronic records, to ensure the audit is completed smoothly and within schedule,” the statement emphasized.

The exercise is part of ongoing efforts to promote accountability, verify the authenticity of payroll records, and eliminate irregularities within the public sector wage system.
