Authorities have ordered the immediate suspension of all forms of extracurricular activities in basic schools within the Atwima Kwanwoma District of the Ashanti Region.

This follows earlier warnings pointing to a clash between the youth of Twedie and Foase.

Chaos erupted when a football competition was marred by stone-throwing, resulting in property damage and injuries.

Last Wednesday’s violent clash triggered a joint deployment of police and military in the twin towns.

It is the first in five years after at least three people were killed during a protest against a decision to move the district capital from Foase to Twedie.

Although sources within the District Security Council will not link this latest development to the 2018 incident, there is a strong push for a joint committee to probe the matter.

“So, for now there is absolute calm in the area”, said Augustine Osei, the Assemblyman for Twedie Electoral Area. Now the soccer games remain suspended until further notice”.

“People are going about their normal duties but we pray the security agencies will be on a high alert to avert any further attacks”, he added.
