The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has urged President-elect John Dramani Mahama and Vice President-elect Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang to live up to the overwhelming mandate given to them by Ghanaians through dedication and hard work.

Speaking after their victory in the December 7 general elections, Bagbin congratulated the two leaders on their emphatic win and reminded them of the significant responsibility they now bear. “I applaud the president-elect, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, and the vice president-elect, Her Excellency Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, for scoring an emphatic victory and a heavy mandate of Ghanaians at the just-ended general elections. I need not remind anyone of the saying that to whom much is given, much is expected,” he said.

Bagbin emphasized that the promise to reset Ghana, a central theme of their campaign, has been strongly endorsed by the electorate, adding that the new administration must work hard to meet the expectations of the people. “Your promise to reset Ghana has been massively endorsed by the voters, and you cannot afford to disappoint them,” he stressed.

The Speaker expressed confidence in Parliament’s ability to support the incoming Mahama administration, highlighting the legislature’s role as a critical partner in ensuring the success of the promised reforms. “I trust Parliament will be a reliable partner and a gatekeeper to ensure a just delivery of that promise,” he assured.

Bagbin’s remarks serve as both a congratulatory message and a reminder of the challenges ahead, urging the new leadership to prioritize the needs of the Ghanaian people.
