Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has clarified his recent comments regarding incentivizing churches for developmental projects, stating that they were made in jest.

Addressing clergy members during his nationwide tour in the North East Region, Vice President Bawumia explained the context behind his remarks, emphasizing the significant contributions of churches and faith-based organizations to the country’s development.

He reflected on the multitude of hospitals and universities built by these institutions, highlighting their role in caring for people on a daily basis. Bawumia underscored the importance of supporting their efforts and suggested providing incentives for further development projects.

During a meeting in the Bono East region, Bawumia reiterated his stance, emphasizing the immense impact of churches on society. He expressed a preference for incentivizing churches to collaborate with the government as domestic development partners rather than imposing taxes on them.
