Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has committed to limiting his ministerial appointments to 50 if elected President of Ghana.
During the NPP’s manifesto launch in Takoradi on Sunday, August 18, Dr. Bawumia stressed that effective governance does not require a large number of ministers. “I will have no more than 50 ministers in my government,” he declared, underscoring his intent to streamline the government’s structure.
Dr. Bawumia also revealed plans to transition from outright purchases to leasing essential items such as vehicles and printing equipment. He explained that this shift would help reduce maintenance costs and save the government substantial amounts of money each year.
“This approach will not only cut waste but also stimulate private sector investment and job creation,” Dr. Bawumia said. “My government will move towards leasing rather than purchasing goods outright. The private sector will handle the maintenance of these items, allowing us to save a significant amount of cash expenditure annually across various ministries.”
