During a speech to supporters in the Amasaman Constituency, Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia took a strong stance against his main opponent, former President John Dramani Mahama, as the December 7 general elections draw near.
Speaking with conviction as part of his Greater Accra regional tour, Dr. Bawumia emphasized his track record and readiness for the presidency. “I have not been president before. I am a vice president,” he began, framing his achievements as vice president. He then pointed to his accomplishments in that role, saying, “All the works I have done, I have done as vice president. I have implemented 33 different policies that are currently working.”
Bawumia went on to draw a direct comparison with Mahama’s tenure, stating, “For the former president, he cannot even show a single policy he championed.” He argued that this contrast underscores his own qualifications and preparedness for higher office. “This means that I have passed as a vice president. Promote me to do the work of a president. Give me the steer because I have passed as a vice president.”
His remarks were designed to highlight his experience and assert his capability to lead, while casting doubt on Mahama’s legacy as president. By contrasting their records, Bawumia sought to strengthen his appeal and energize supporters ahead of the election.
As the campaign heats up, Bawumia’s assertive comments reflect the growing intensity of the race and set the stage for a highly competitive contest leading up to December.
