The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has made startling allegations against Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, accusing him of benefiting from dubious and overpriced sole-sourced contracts.

The party claims that Bawumia’s brother, Abraham Bawumia, has received several lucrative contracts through sole sourcing, bypassing competitive bidding processes.

Addressing a news conference on Wednesday (7 August) Communications Director of the NDC Sammy Gyamfi pointed to a GHS52.25 million contract for the rehabilitation of the Sunyani Airport, which Gyamfi argued was awarded without transparency.

“Alhaji Bawumia is the biggest promoter and beneficiary of sole sourcing,” Gyamfi asserted. He criticized Bawumia for not living up to his earlier promises to eliminate sole sourcing, calling it a practice now deeply entrenched under the current administration.

Gyamfi detailed how Resource Access Limited, a company owned by Bawumia’s brother, received a total of GHS218 million through various sole-sourced contracts. He also highlighted other projects, including cocoa road developments and road rehabilitation, as examples of overpriced and mismanaged contracts.

“The total contract value of just the five sole-sourced contracts awarded to Bawumia’s brother’s company alone amounts to a colossal GHS218 million,” Gyamfi noted, questioning the financial wisdom and transparency of these deals.

Gyamfi urged Ghanaians to vote for change in the upcoming elections, promising that an NDC government under John Dramani Mahama would address corruption and restore accountability.

“A vote for H.E. John Dramani Mahama is a vote for CHANGE—a change that will ensure genuine accountability and justice,” he said.
