Bernard Anbataayela Mornah has been elected as the flag bearer of the People’s National Convention (PNC) for the upcoming 2024 presidential elections.
Mornah secured a decisive victory in a two-horse race, polling 1,138 votes compared to 216 votes for the incumbent, David Apasera.
The election, held on Saturday, September 7, 2024, marked the PNC’s first-ever decentralized congress, a process supervised by the Electoral Commission (EC).
Despite initial disruptions in the Greater Accra region, where delegates protested over unpaid allowances, the voting proceeded after assurances from party leaders.
Mornah, who is the managing partner of Ndaana Ghana Ltd and CEO of Gateway Savannah Ltd, rallied supporters with a call to challenge the political dominance of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
He urged Ghanaians, particularly the youth, to join the PNC’s mission to break the existing political duopoly.
“Our plight is the same, hence our fight must be the same,” Mornah said in his victory speech. He emphasized the need for a new direction for Ghana, free from the influence of the NPP and NDC, whom he criticized as internal and external adversaries to the country’s progress.
In addition to Mornah’s election, the PNC also elected other key officers: Esther Osei Darko as national women organizer, Asaki Samson Awingobit as chairman, Mark Owusu as national youth organizer, Abass Nuhu as national organizer, and Ishaq Awudu as general secretary.
