Bono region: Granny, grandson burnt to death

A nine-year-old and his 75-year-old grandmother have died in Bono region’s town of Nkrankwanta as a fast-moving wildfire raged into a five-bedroom house Monday night.

Firefighters from Dormaa Ahenkro reportedly found the charred bodies after fighting the close to two-hour blaze which occurred near a popular hotel facility in the area.

Two others including an off-duty soldier, who are both occupant of the building sustained life-threatening conditions and were rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Police have begun investigations into the incident.

Identified as Afia Nyamekye and Jonathan Ansong, the lifeless bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the Presbyterian hospital morgue for autopsy.

Dormaa West District Police Commander DSP Daniel Wiafe said they are collaborating with the Fire Service to investigate the cause of fire.
