Executives in the Bosomtwe Constituency of the New Patriotic Party, NPP have endorsed Bernard Antwi Boasiako popularly called Wontumi, as he seeks re-election as Ashanti Regional Chairman.

On Friday (13 May 2022), the executives converged at the party office at Kuntenase to announce their decision to the media, even before nominations were opened on Sunday.

Constituency Chairman, Addai-Poku Aikins who spoke on behalf of all 10 newly elected executives said: “We are supporting him for the third time and we are hopeful of a flawless victory”.

“He has done it before and we know when he is re-elected he will contribute to the party’s agenda to break the 8 ahead of the 2024 polls”, Aikins said as he presented a cheque of ₵70,000 to Wontumi who was present during the brief ceremony.

“Some 5000 branded T-shirts have also been printed to support the course”, he added.

No need to change a winning team

Reacting to the gesture, Wontumi who was a former leader of the NPP in that constituency implored delegates to retain the current regional executives ahead of the crucial elections in the party’s stronghold.

According to him, he and his current executives have been tried and tested, having led the party to win two consecutive elections in 2016 and 2020 respectively.

“This election is not just about becoming a regional executive. It is about leading the party tow in a third consecutive term, for the first time under the Fourth Republic”, he said.

He warned his supporters and candidates to kick against politics of insults ahead of the upcoming regional election.

“We must stay united to break the eight and we cannot take our own party members to the cleaners. We should campaign based on records and not insults”, he posited.
