Police at KNUST in the Ashanti Region are questioning management of Silicon Hotel at Kentinkrono, near Kumasi after a 15-year-old boy perished in the hotel’s swimming pool on Saturday.

The deceased, Alfred Addo Debrah, reportedly went to the facility with his two other friends to swim after they had closed from a weekend classes at about 15:00hrs local time.

Witnesses told Dailymailgh.com that the victim struggled to stay afloat as he swam into the deepest section of the water.

Assembly member for Kentinkrono Electoral Area, Kwame Owusu Basoah, however, told Dailymailgh that the victim’s colleagues and other hotel staff immediately removed the victim after he could not be traced.

“So he was immediately removed by some of the staff of the hotel and rushed to the KNUST Hospital for treatment but he was pronounced dead on arrival”, the Assemblyman narrated.

He further explained that, “the police was formally informed and has commenced investigations into the matter”.

The body of the deceased has since been deposited at the KNUST Hospital morgue for burial, police said in an incident statement on Sunday.

The deceased until his death was a final year student of Infant Jesus Lumen Christ School at Ayeduase in the Oforikrom Municipality.

His parents have also been informed and are assisting police in their investigations.
