A boys’ dormitory of the Nyinahin Senior High School got burnt on Friday night triggering police investigations.
It still remains unclear what started the incident but police at Nyinahin, the capital of the Atwima Mponua District in the Ashanti Region are not ruling out a suspected arson.
A District Commander said: “We got information around 7:40 p.m., that there was a fire incident in the school. So we quickly mobilized our men and called the firefighters from Nkawie who came to douse the blaze”.
“So far we are investigating the case”, the Commander told a meeting held by the Chief of Nyinahin, Nana Amanpene Boateng Twum II.
A statement from the Ghana National Fire Service said at least six rooms were affected. Properties belonging to the students were also destroyed by the fire.
The incident comes hours after the students ended the West African Senior School Certificate Examination that fateful day.
The Ghana Education Service had earlier warned of planned attacks in various Senior High Schools after the exams.
