A scuffle with military personnel and some timber lumber operators at Breman-Amanfopong in the Central region on Friday has left one person dead.
The deceased, 41-year-old, Ali Mudasir, together with some accomplices were transporting lumber from a forest reserve to Amanfopong when they were accosted by the soldiers.
Reports suggest that the operators snubbed the uniform men who chased them and shot the victim in the head, killing him instantly.
“We saw a speeding truck amidst gunshots. We were later told one person has been shot dead. They had earlier arrested one person. Two of the accomplices are natives of this town”, a witness narrated.
Correspondent Kofi Otabil reports that the news incensed the community but before they could mobilize, the soldiers took over the town compelling the youth to flee.
He tells DailymailGh.com that the lifeless body of the deceased has since been deposited at the Our Lady of Grace Hospital morgue pending autopsy.
Police at the Breman-Asikuma District Command have been patrolling the town to maintain calm.
It remains unclear whether the vehicle has been impounded as police take over investigations into the incident.
