One person has died while another has suffered a serious injury in an accident that occurred in the Central Region of Ghana.
The incident happened at about 4:30pm Wednesday at Apam, about 70km from the nation’s capital, Accra.
Emergency services who were called to the scene found that a petrol tanker had veered off its lane and landed into a ditch close to a fuel station.
Driver of the vehicle survived the accident after he was rescued by firefighters while one other who was later identified as a driver’s mate was declared dead at the scene.
Images obtained by Dailymailgh.com showed the mangled vehicle in a nearby bush as firefighters and police officers working hard to rescue the victims.
A witness told Winneba-based Nyce FM that: “The fuel tanker was heading towards the Tema direction and so on reaching the Apam Junction, a bus suddenly emerged and in an attempt to prevent a collision it veered off its lane and ran into the ditch.”
Officers deployed at the scene had to manage the huge vehicular traffic on the Accra-Winneba road as a result of the accident.
“We are working to tow the vehicle to the police station and also ease traffic. So far the driver is receiving treatment at the Apam Government Hospital while the body of the deceased is being preserved at the same hospital for autopsy and investigation”, an officer at the scene said.
