Opposition parliamentary candidate for Agona West is being questioned by the police in the Central Region over an alleged assassination plot against Gender Minister, Cynthia Mamle Morrison.
Paul Ofori-Amuah is said to be assisting the police in their investigations into allegations of scheming to eliminate his main contender, Morrison, in the December 7 polls.
The Minister had alleged that some four persons earlier picked up by the police are plotting to take her life.
Mr. Ofori-Amuah is said to have admitted issuing two cheques found with the suspects in their hotel room in Swedru in the Central Region where they were arrested on October 17, 2020.
The suspects have since been remanded by a court in Cape Coast.
“Police invited Mr. Paul Ofori-Amoah who has also reported at the regional headquarters… he has admitted of issuing the two bank cheques that were picked by the police at the hotel during the search in the rooms and on the suspects,” the Central Regional Police Command said.
In an interview with Accra-based Joy FM, Public Relations Officer for the Police in the region, DSP Irene Oppong, explained that the parliamentary candidate’s caution statement has been taken.
DSP Oppong further told Joy News’ Richard Kwadwo Nyarko that Mr. Ofori-Amuah has been charged with preparations to commit crime and abetment to commit a crime.
She urged the public to volunteer “any information connected to the four persons who were arrested on suspicion at Swedru on October 17, 2020, the general public should contact police in 18555.”
The Police also urged the media “to contact police on all information concerning this case and we are ready to give updates periodically as we continue with our investigations.”
