Ghanaian champions FC Samartex made a strong start in their CAF Champions League journey by securing a vital win against Cameroonian side Victoria United on Sunday.

Playing at the Japoma Stadium, the Timber Giants showed great resilience and determination, earning an important away victory in the first leg of their preliminary round clash.

The match began with a tense, goalless first half, as both teams struggled to find the back of the net. Victoria United controlled the early stages, but Samartex’s solid defense held firm, preventing any breakthroughs.

Samartex’s head coach, Nurudeen Amadu, strategically selected a strong starting lineup with the goal of achieving a positive result, and his approach paid off.

After the halftime break, the Ghanaian champions stepped up their game and eventually secured a narrow victory. The decisive goal came from forward Emmanuel Mamah, who scored to give Samartex the win.

Samartex will aim to build on this success when they host Victoria United in the return leg on Sunday, August 25, at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The overall winner of the two legs will move on to the second preliminary round, where they could potentially face Moroccan giants Raja Club Athletic for a chance to enter the group stages of the competition.
