Ghana Premier League side Obuasi Ashantigold SC on Saturday beat Moroccan side Renaissance Sportiv Berkane in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup second round qualifiers at the Len Clay Sports Stadium in Obuasi.

Former Asante Kotoko defender Eric Donkor broke the virginity of the game with a long-range strike on the 16th minutes before skipper Shafiu Mumuni added the second of the game before the break.

The Black and Yellow lads took their foot off the paddle and allowed the Moroccan side to pull one back five minutes after recess through Mohammed Aziz and went on to concede a second seven minutes later due to a well taken shot from Mohammed Farehane.

Amos Addai saved the Miners and gave them a slim chance going into the second leg in Morocco in a fortnight with a late strike which secured a vital win for the Obuasi-lads.

Ex-Asokwa Deportivo midfield gem Appiah Maccarthy rattled the crossbar with a powerful free kick on the 25 minutes mark.

Ashantigold SC will have to be at their maximum best as they face a very tall mountain to climb in the second leg after dashing Berkane two vital away goals which could come back to haunt them in the second leg.
