Kumasi Asante Kotoko have beaten Étoile Sportive du Sahel 2—0 at the Baba Yara Sport Stadium in Kumasi.
The Porcupine Warriors took an early lead in the third minute through Augustin Okrah’s sizzling free-kick just at the edge of the box.
The first half was dominated by the determined Red and White side as Etoile resorted to delaying tactics as the half ended 1-0 in favour of the home side.
Asante Kotoko lifted their game in the second half and got their reward in the 55th minute when struggling Richard Arthur pounced on a loose ball to slot in from close range to the left bottom corner of the post to make the scoreline 2—0 for the Kumasi lads.
Kotoko’s talisman Sogne Yacouba was introduced to the game in the 62nd-minute mark but failed to make any meaningful impact as he is just recovering from a long injury.
The Ghana Premier League giant have got one leg into the group stages of the Champions League provided they avoid defeat in a fortnight when they travel to Suez for the second leg.
Coach Zachariassen and his charges have not been bad travellers themselves and would hope for a better or similar outcome of their previous match in Nigeria against Kano Pillars.
