Cameroon have sacked Clarence Seedorf after the Indomitable Lions were knocked out from the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

Cameroon Sports Minister Professor Narcisse Mouelle Kombi announced on state television CRTV that the former Dutch international will not continue as head coach of the team with immediate effect because “he is not fit for the job”.

“We thank Seedorf and his assistant Kluivert but we do not consider them as technically genius coaches who can take us to the promise land in the near future so we have terminated his contract,” said Mr Kombi.

Seedorf who took over from former coach Hugo Bruce who steered Cameroon to victory two years ago in Equatorial Guinea sidelined the captain of the team Benjamin Mukandjo ahead of the tournament claiming players playing in China are not fit enough for such competition. Surprisingly he added Christian Basagog to his squad though he also plies his trade in the Chinese Super league.

The five-time champions was kicked out of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt by the Super Eagles of Nigeria at the 1/16 stage in a well contested match which ended 3-2.
