Cape Coast CID arrests one suspect over murder of headteacher

The Ghana Police Service has confirmed the arrest of one person said to be involved in the gruesome murder of a 40-year-old headteacher in the Central Region capital, Cape Coast.

Yaw Eyifa Gorman was gunned down few minutes after parking his vehicle on return from a census training workshop on Saturday, May 22, 2021 at about 20:00hrs.

The victim was rushed to the hospital for treatment was pronounced dead on arrival.

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) at the Central Region Police Headquarters said a suspect is in custody assisting in investigations.

“Police intelligence has led to the arrest of one suspect in relation to the above murder case. Suspect is in custody assisting with investigations. Details will follow”, a police terse message said.

The identity of the suspect was not disclosed in the said message.

The victim until his death was the headteacher of Ansapatu Basic School near Effutu.

His death comes days after another headteacher returning from a census workshop was also gunned down by unidentified gunmen on May 7, 2021.

Police named the deceased as Elijah Asante who heads the Bantama Basic School in the Sene West District also in the Bono East Region.

Police is yet to confirm any arrest.
