The police on Thursday December 9, 2021, arraigned broadcaster Captain Smart in court and he pleaded not guilty to the charge of offensive conduct conducive to the breach of the peace under Section 207 of the Criminal Offences Act 1960 (Act 29).
The court admitted him to bail in the sum of GHC 100,000.00 with one surety to be justified.
The case has been adjourned to January 11, 2022. Meanwhile, he is to report to the Police every Tuesday and Friday.
Background
The Nima Divisional Police Command of the Ghana Police Service arrested Blessed Godsbrain Smart, popularly known as “Captain Smart”, the host of Onua TV/FM’s morning show in Accra, on Thursday 2 December 2021.
In a statement, the police said Smart was arrested after certain unsavoury pronouncements that hinge on peace and security.

Meanwhile, the National Media Commission (NMC) has described Captain Smart’s actions as unprofessional and inciteful.
In a letter to Onua FM, the NMC said “we are particularly concerned about a recent broadcast in which Captain Smart calls for insurrection against the state of Ghana and its institutions.”
“This, by all standards, crosses the line of robust and critical broadcasting and transforms your radio station into a megaphone of war,” the NMC statement said.
