The Bareas of Madagascar beat Niger to the bronze medal on Friday night in Oran in the 2022 CAF Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) tournament.
The Bareas were undoubtedly the best on the day and deservedly pipped the Nigeriens to to the third place spot in Algeria.
The opening half of the match was fairly balanced as both teams played extremely well creating good goal scoring chances but failed to utilize them.
Madagascar had a great chance with a yawning net but they failed to take full advantages after the goalkeeper spilled a long range effort to see the opening half ending in goalless stalemate.
Both teams upped their game as the intensity went up in the second half of the match.
Madagascar were slightly better in the second half and finally got their reward very late in the entertaining encounter.
Jean Razafindrakoto latched onto a loose ball in the goal area after the goalkeeper of Niger failed to grab the ball on first attempt to score inside the 90th minute mark to win the game to hand Madagascar their first ever medals in football.
