Ghana’s Black Galaxies booked a place in the next CHAN tournament after beating bitterest rivals, the Super Eagles of Nigeria on Saturday evening.
Ghana secured qualification the hard way against the Nigerians who were determined to eliminate Ghana at their backyard.
Ghana played very well in the opening half of the match and matched Nigeria boot for boot in the opening half which ended goalless.
With 15 minutes to the end of the match, Nigeria took the lead to halve the deficit to one on aggregate to set up a grand style finish to the game.
The home team equalized with the last kick of the match to win 2-0 on the day and 2-2 on aggregate which meant both teams could be separated on from 12 yards.
The Ghanaian players held their nerves during the shoot-outs to win 5-4 on penalties to book a place in the 2023 CHAN tournament in Algeria.
This will be Ghana’s first time participating in the tournament since 2014.
