Ghana’s head coach, Chris Hughton, expressed his belief that his team did not deserve to lose against Comoros in Tuesday’s match, despite the Black Stars succumbing to a 1-0 defeat in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier.
In his post-match interview, Hughton congratulated Comoros for their victory while asserting that Ghana had the upper hand throughout the 90 minutes.
“Congratulations to Comoros for the victory. In my opinion over the 90 minutes, we were the better team. I thought Ghana we were the better team. We conceded what we regarded as a poor goal to concede and we were not able to capitalise on the chances that we had,” said Coach Chris Hughton.
He went on to express disappointment in the team’s inability to convert opportunities, emphasizing that the match was not one where Comoros won comfortably. Hughton highlighted the perceived defensive lapse leading to Comoros’ goal but maintained that Ghana outperformed their opponents overall.
“So this was not a game where Comoros won this game comfortably. Over the 90 minutes, we were the better team but unfortunately, we were not able to put away the chances that we created,” added Hughton.
Following the defeat to Comoros, speculations have emerged suggesting that Chris Hughton could potentially lose his job as Ghana’s head coach.
The outcome has intensified scrutiny on Hughton’s leadership, raising questions about the team’s performance and the potential ramifications for his coaching position.
