The government is set to hold negotiations with the leadership of the Civil and Local Government Staff Association (CLOGSAG) on Thursday, February 27, in an effort to resolve the ongoing strike.
CLOGSAG is demanding the removal of the newly appointed Births and Deaths Registrar, Samuel Adom Botchway, citing concerns over his alleged partisan affiliation. This concern was highlighted in a letter from the Ministry of Labour, Jobs, and Unemployment, which also urged the association to suspend the strike ahead of the scheduled meeting.
Speaking to Citi News, CLOGSAG’s Executive Secretary, Isaac Bampoe Addo, stated that any decision regarding the strike would be determined by the outcome of the discussions. “We have received some correspondence from the Minister for Labour, Jobs and Employment. They are requesting us to come and have a meeting with them on Thursday, February 27. And they are also requesting if it is possible to suspend the strike, but as we have always said, the strike action was called by the National Executive Council of CLOGSAG, and they are the only body that can call it off.”
He further emphasized the association’s stance on neutrality within the civil service. “And then number two, this neutrality that you are preaching—our members have been dismissed for violating it and doing politics. So, it is only fair as a start for this discussion, we think Mr. Botchway should not be there,” he added.
The outcome of Thursday’s meeting is expected to determine CLOGSAG’s next course of action regarding the strike.
