The Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) has announced a nationwide strike beginning on November 7, citing delays by the government in implementing a new salary structure for its members.
CLOGSAG had previously signaled its intention to go on strike in a statement released on October 22, expressing concerns that the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) would fail to meet the October 31 deadline to finalize the salary adjustments.
This strike is largely driven by frustration over the government’s failure to execute the proposed salary structure, despite an agreement (Memorandum of Understanding) reached over 18 months ago.
In a statement issued on Monday, November 4, CLOGSAG’s Executive Secretary, Isaac Bampoe Addo, criticized the current timeline, now considering the January 1, 2025, implementation date as “unrealistic.”
Furthermore, Addo stated that CLOGSAG would no longer collaborate with FWSC’s CEO, Benjamin Arthur, accusing him of acting in bad faith. “As a result of the long delay in the completion of a New Salary Structure and other Conditions of Service for the Staff of Civil Service and Local Government Service, the Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG) has no choice but to ask our members to stay at home on Thursday, November 7th,” he declared.
The strike is expected to impact various government operations across the country as CLOGSAG members heed the call to remain home.
