The Commonwealth Observer Mission has commended Ghana for conducting free, fair, and transparent elections in 2024. Despite incidents of violence that claimed at least four lives and a tense post-election period, the overall process has been hailed as commendable.
During a debriefing with Ghana’s National Election Security Taskforce, Mokgweetsi Masisi, leader of the Commonwealth Observer Mission, highlighted the exemplary role played by the country’s police in maintaining order.
“It’s significant to applaud the conduct of the 2024 elections in Ghana because, in terms of the criteria established, they qualified as free, fair, transparent, and decisive,” Masisi stated.
He further praised the Ghana Police Service, saying, “The police in Ghana played an extremely important role of being the referee of law and order, the keeper of peace, without the use of force.”
