Authorities in Ghana have warned its citizens to avoid or delay non-essential travels, amid China’s fight against novel coronavirus outbreak.

So far 213 people have been confirmed dead with nearly 10,000 people, mainly in China, being infected since it emerged in December. More than 100 cases have been reported outside China, in 22 countries.

Currently the Chinese people are going all out to fight against the epidemic, a government spokesperson said, stressing that acting with openness, transparency and a high sense of responsibility, the Chinese government keeps the international community well-informed with timely updates and shared relevant data.

Ghana is yet to report a case, the country’s Health Ministry said on Friday.

In a statement to update Ghanaians on the country’s preparedness towards a possible outbreak, Sector Minister, Kwaku Agyeman-Manu has given the assurance that “we are doing all things possible to ensure that we protect the nation against the coronavirus.”

“In light of these, there will be a National Technical Committee Coordination (NTCC) to review the resilience of our current arrangements to prevent an outbreak…,” the statement added.
