The National Democratic Congress (NDC) MP-elect for Assin North, James Gyekye Quayson, will not be sworn-in on Thursday, 7 January 2021 due to a court injunction on him over his dual citizenship case.

Quayson is being accused of owing allegiance to Canada contrary to Article 94 (1) (a) of the 1992 constitution.

The Cape Coast High Court said the case before it is grave hence the MP-elect should stop holding himself as a parliamentarian until the substantive case is over.

The petition was sent to court by Michael Ankoma-Nimfah, a mason and resident of Assin Bereku.

The MP reported failed to renounce his citizenship before filing his nomination.

However, he was able to present certificate of renunciation of his Canadian citizenship on 27 November 2020 weeks after filing.
