The Western Region’s Covid-19 patient is a Chinese national, the region’s officials said on Monday.
The Regional Minister, Kwabena Okyere Darko Mensah, said in a statement that the patient had arrived in Ghana on Saturday, March 21 and was on self-isolation for the mandatory period of 14 days.
“Though he showed no symptoms of the virus, the medical team took his sample for testing on 8th April, 2020 to confirm his status; which unfortunately tested positive on 12th of April, 2020”, the Minister said.
The patient, according to the Minister, is one of six Chinese and 32 Ghanaians working at Coastal Quarry, a company near Anto in the Shama District.
“A combined team of medical and security personnel is currently at work at the site”, the Minister further stated.
He also appealed to all stakeholders, including security agencies to ensure that all social distancing protocols are strictly adhered to, to curb the spread of the virus.
The region’s Covid-19 case count stands at 10. Other regions which has recorded cases are Greater Accra, Ashanti, Eastern, Volta, Northern and North East regions. The rest are Central, Upper East and Upper West regions
As at April 12, the country has so far recorded 566 cases with eight deaths.
