Eight persons have been detained by the police at Suame in the Ashanti region — after returning to Ghana from Mali.
They were intercepted at the Suame Waterworks snap checkpoint on Thursday night as police enforce a lockdown directive in parts of the region.
The eight included Awudu Musah, a 36-year-old driver who was in charge of a DAF bus with registration number GR 2285-L, a police report to Dailymailgh.com read.
Also onboard was a driver’s mate named as Sumaila Mohammed, aged 27, and six other occupants who were later identified as loading boys.
They told the police that they left the shores of Ghana to the French-speaking country in the last 30 days to offload some goods and had spent some days in the Upper West region.
They face a possible Covid-19 self-isolation protocol as police prepare to hand them over to health officials for screening.
The bus has since been impounded and parked at the Suame police station.
Mali has so far recorded 39 Covid-19 cases with three deaths while Ghana’s status stands at 205 with five deaths. Both countries are on a lockdown to limit the spread of the virus.
