Events to mark this year’s Apoo Festival in the Bono East Region of Ghana, have been cancelled by the Techiman Traditional Council because of the Coronavirus crisis.
“… The Standing Committee of the Techiman Traditional Council at its meeting on Saturday, 14th March, 2020 at Ohene Ameyaw Palace has reached an informed decision to cancel the celebration of this year’s Techiman Apoo Festival”, parts of a statement released on Saturday, March 14 read.
The statement, however, indicated that “the “Adamu” period which starts from this evening to the 14th day of April, 2020 is still intact”.
Ghana confirmed two cases of the deadly disease this week.
The patients are a Norwegian and a Ghanaian, the country’s Information Ministry has said.
A lot of public and private institutions have tightened up their restrictions following the announcement.
Over 50 cases have so far been tested negative as the government commits $100 million to enhance the country’s preparedness to fight the disease.
