Deputy Minister-Designate for Finance, Thomas Ampem Nyarko, has underscored the importance of bipartisan cooperation in shaping Ghana’s economic policies. He urged the main opposition party to actively engage in the upcoming National Economic Dialogue to foster consensus on key economic issues.

Speaking during his vetting before Parliament’s Appointments Committee, Nyarko emphasized the need for inclusivity in addressing the country’s economic challenges. “In our manifesto, President Mahama promised a National Economic Dialogue aimed at building consensus. It is important to always carry people along,” he stated. He expressed hope that all political stakeholders would contribute to the discussions for effective policy-making. “I want to hope and pray that when the time comes, our brothers from the other side will participate to move Ghana forward,” he added.

President John Dramani Mahama has scheduled the National Economic Dialogue for March 3 and 4, 2025, at the Accra International Conference Centre. The event will be guided by the theme, “Resetting Ghana: Building the Economy We Want Together.” The President is expected to deliver a keynote address outlining strategies for economic recovery and growth.

“This initiative represents a crucial step in fulfilling President Mahama’s campaign promise to involve citizens in discussions that shape their economic future. The dialogue will promote consensus and collaboration among participants regarding priority policies and structural reforms,” a statement on the event highlighted.

Discussions will be structured into thematic sessions covering key areas, including achieving sustainable macroeconomic stability, promoting economic transformation, advancing infrastructure development, implementing structural reforms, fostering private sector-led growth, and restoring good governance while tackling corruption. The dialogue aims to reset Ghana’s economy, ensuring long-term resilience and progress for all citizens.
