Voters in the Ejura/Sekyedumase Constituency of the Ashanti Region are calling for the replacement of their National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP), Mohammed Bawa Braimah.
This follows a visit to the area by Hajia Samira Bawumia, the wife of NPP flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
The tour, which aimed to engage with constituents and discuss government initiatives, dissatisfaction with the current MP’s performance became a focal point of community discussions.
Some residents who spoke to dailymailgh.com expressed their frustrations feeling that their concerns have been consistently overlooked by their elected representative.
Many voters who voiced their belief are routing for Gifty Ndomah, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) stating that they are convinced she will be a leader who will actively listen and address their needs.
‘We appreciate Samira coming to talk to us, but it only made us realize how much our MP has not done for us. We need someone who will fight for our community. We’ve known Gifty for quite sometime and we are convinced she has a message”, a resident who gave her name as Farida said.
Another resident, Abena Pokuaa, re-echoed these sentiments, saying, “Samira’s visit was a good gesture. First I was blind but now I can see the light. Our MP has not delivered on his commitments, and it’s time for a change.”
“This community deserves better representation. We hope that the party will listen to our cries and consider finding a new candidate who will prioritize our needs”, another said.
Samira’s visit, intended to court support for the NPP, as part of a week-long tour of the Ashanti Region, the party’s stronghold.
Addressing a crowd shortly after a health walk, the Second Lady expressed her deep affection for the community but lamented the lack of progress in the constituency.
She appealed to the electorate to reconsider their support for the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
“You chose somebody to represent you in Parliament and also be an agent of development, but that has not happened. Are we moving forward or backwards? If we want to move forward, why do we allow the NDC to take us back? It shouldn’t happen this time.”
“With your massive votes, this is going to happen. Gifty is well-resourced to bring change to the people of Ejura/Sekyedumase,” she asserted.
