Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has urged Ghanaians to reject the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its leader, John Dramani Mahama, in the upcoming December 7 general elections. Speaking at a campaign rally in Saboba on Saturday, November 23, 2024, Dr. Bawumia accused the NDC of neglecting the development of the five northern regions and mismanaging resources allocated for their progress.

In his address, Dr. Bawumia criticized the NDC’s flagship initiative, the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA), which was introduced during Mahama’s tenure. He alleged that the program, intended to transform the northern regions, was plagued by corruption and inefficiency, leaving no visible legacy.

He pointed to the controversial guinea fowl farming project under SADA as an example of the initiative’s failure. According to Dr. Bawumia, funds meant for meaningful development projects were wasted on what he described as poorly planned ventures. He reminded the audience of the infamous claim that the guinea fowls from the project had flown to Burkina Faso, a statement that has since become a symbol of alleged mismanagement under the Mahama administration.

“In this election, there are two of us, isn’t it? Myself and the former president. During his time, all the money, hundreds of millions that were given to him [John Dramani Mahama] to develop the north, he said he was raring guinea fowls,” Dr. Bawumia remarked.

He further asked, “Guinea fowls under SADA—and we have not seen one SADA project in the five northern regions. Is there a SADA project in Saboba?” The crowd responded with a resounding “No.”

He continued, “We asked him, where are the guinea fowls? And he said they have flown to Burkina Faso. And today, he says he wants to come back. Do you want him to come back?”

Dr. Bawumia called on Ghanaians to choose a leader who delivers results and not empty promises, urging them to vote for the NPP to ensure continued progress and development.
