Dr. George Akuffo Dampare expresses gratitude after exit as IGP

Former Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has expressed his heartfelt appreciation for the opportunity to serve Ghana following his recent removal from office.

 

In a statement issued on March 14, 2025, Dr. Dampare conveyed his gratitude to God and the people of Ghana for their prayers, blessings, and steadfast support throughout his tenure.

 

“I am deeply grateful for the overwhelming love and encouragement I have received from well-wishers in Ghana and beyond, especially in the past 24 hours,” he acknowledged.

 

Dr. Dampare extended special appreciation to former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for entrusting him with the role of Inspector General of Police, a position that made him the youngest IGP in Ghana’s Fourth Republic. He also recognized President John Dramani Mahama for the cordial working relationship they shared during their brief time together.

 

The former IGP expressed thanks to religious and traditional leaders for their prayers, wisdom, and guidance, as well as to the heads of sister security agencies for their collaboration and support. He also appreciated the constructive input and encouragement from civil society organizations.

 

Additionally, he acknowledged the backing of the international community and diplomatic missions, emphasizing their valuable engagement and feedback during his leadership.

 

Reflecting on his 35-year journey in the Ghana Police Service, Dr. Dampare expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to rise through the ranks from General Constable to Inspector General of Police. He highlighted the honor of being the youngest Commissioner of Police and IGP in the Fourth Republic.

 

He also extended his appreciation to the Police Management Board (POMAB) and all officers of the service for their dedication and wished them continued success.

 

Reaffirming his dedication to Ghana, Dr. Dampare stated: “At nearly 55 years old, I remain energetic, disciplined, and committed to serving my country with honor and integrity.”
