The Director of Research at the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA), Dr. John Kwakye, has proposed possible funding strategies for the numerous initiatives announced by President John Dramani Mahama in his 2025 State of the Nation Address (SONA).
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Dr. Kwakye stressed the importance of enhanced revenue mobilization and prudent financial management to support the government’s policies. He also underscored the need to maximize revenue from Ghana’s natural resources as a key funding source for economic development.
“If asked how President Mahama’s numerous SONA initiatives will be funded, I will suggest: enhanced revenue mobilisation, cutting wasteful expenditure, checking pillage of state funds, and tapping more natural resource receipts,” Dr. Kwakye wrote.
During his February 27, 2025, address, President Mahama acknowledged the significant challenges facing key sectors such as energy and cocoa, while outlining bold plans to stabilize the economy, strengthen industries, and introduce social intervention programs.
