The Member of Parliament for Old Tafo, Vincent Ekow Assafuah, has criticized the National Democratic Congress (NDC), accusing the ruling party of being unprepared to govern effectively due to a campaign built on propaganda and falsehoods.
Assafuah argued that the NDC’s rise to power was not based on practical policies or achievable promises but rather on misleading narratives, which he claims have left the party struggling to manage the responsibilities of leadership.
“The NDC came into power through lies and propaganda, and now that reality is staring them in the face, they seem not to understand that they have to govern,” he remarked during an appearance on The Big Issue on Channel One TV on Saturday, January 11.
His criticism followed a statement made by John Jinapor, the Member of Parliament for Yapei Kusawgu and Minister-Designate for Energy, during the inauguration of President John Dramani Mahama in Accra on January 7, 2024.
In his address, Jinapor warned that Ghana was facing an imminent energy crisis, claiming the country had only five hours’ worth of fuel left to sustain the national grid.
However, Assafuah dismissed Jinapor’s statement as inaccurate and misleading, pointing out that more than 48 hours had passed since the warning, yet Ghana’s electricity supply had remained uninterrupted.
“We were all here when John Jinapor, who is now the Minister-Designate for Energy, claimed that the fuel we have would only last for five hours. Now, it has been over 48 hours, and our lights are still on. That was a lie,” Assafuah stated.
He insisted that such exaggerations expose the NDC’s reliance on opposition tactics even while in government, making it clear that governing requires a shift from campaign rhetoric to addressing real issues.
