Five more bodies have been pulled from the debris of a collapsed church building in Ghana’s Eastern Region, bringing the death toll to six, according to local media reports.

The three-storey residential building in the Asene/Manso/Akroso District collapsed on Tuesday, October 20, 2020 while most worshippers were resting after a prayer session.

More than 60 people were estimated to be in the building at the time.

Emergency workers from the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) and the Ghana Police Service and the Fire Service have pulled at least seven survivors from the rubble of the building in Akyem Batabi.

The injured were at the Akim/Oda Government Hospital as of press time. Officials were yet to comment on the matter.
