The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced that this year’s voters’ registration exercise will take place from 7 May to 27 May 2024 across the country.
This important announcement follows a crucial Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) to discuss various election-related matters held in Accra on Tuesday(9 April).
The exercise will be conducted at all 268 EC offices nationwide, including in the Guan Constituency (Santrofi, Akpafu, Lolobi, Likpe – SALL) in the Oti Region.
Extra registration centers
Additionally, the EC plans to open 775 registration centers in distant and riverine areas, managed by mobile registration teams.
Notably, 25 public universities will host registration centers, although no centers will be set up in senior high schools (SHS). Public education campaigns will precede the registration to ensure widespread awareness.
Other details
After the registration, a nationwide exercise to replace missing voter ID cards will commence from May 30, 2024.
The EC intends to provide the provisional voters’ register to political parties between July 9 and July 18, 2024, followed by an exhibition from July 15 to July 24, 2024. The final voters’ register will be shared with political parties between August 30 and September 5, 2024.
Ejisu by-election
EC will conduct a by-election in the Ejisu Constituency on April 30, 2024, following the passing of Member of Parliament Dr. John Ampontuah Kumah on March 7, 2024.
This by-election aligns with constitutional provisions mandating a vote within 60 days of a parliamentary vacancy, with a three-month buffer before a general election.
The EC’s calendar indicates that nominations for the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections will be received from September 9 to 13, 2024.
Subsequently, balloting for positions on the presidential ballot paper will occur on September 23, 2024, followed by parliamentary balloting on September 24, 2024.
The EC aims to declare the presidential election results within three days of voting, marking the culmination of the electoral process.
