The Electoral Commission (EC) has formally invited the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to a meeting to address concerns raised about the voters’ register for the upcoming December 7 general elections.

Deputy EC Chairperson, Dr. Eric Bossman Asare, stressed the importance of dialogue and cooperation between the Commission and political parties to resolve any issues and ensure a seamless electoral process. He emphasized that open discussions are the best way to handle concerns regarding the voters’ roll.

In a media briefing, Dr. Asare encouraged the NDC to engage directly with the EC over any concerns about the voters’ register or other election-related matters instead of relying on nationwide protests, as seen on September 17.

“We think that what will change something is the discussion table. We coming together, although we concede that political parties are some things which are entrenched in our laws, individuals can come together and demonstrate, and express concerns as far as they have certain things to express concerns about,” Dr. Asare said.

He added that while demonstrations are a valid way to express discontent, they should not be the ultimate goal if the NDC’s objective is to improve the electoral process. “If the objective of the NDC is a solution to have a credible register, a robust register entering into the 2024 elections, we believe that they must be willing to come to the discussion table.”
