President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has reaffirmed that education is a central pillar of his administration’s agenda. He emphasized the government’s significant investment in the education sector, acknowledging it as the most effective means to transform the nation.
Speaking on Thursday, August 22, 2024, during the commissioning of the Silver Jubilee Building at the University for Development Studies (UDS) in Tamale, President Akufo-Addo highlighted key initiatives that have improved access to education in Ghana. He noted that the No Guarantor Policy has played a crucial role in increasing access to tertiary education by eliminating financial obstacles, thereby creating opportunities for many young Ghanaians.
“Our substantial support for research and academic development reflects our belief in the power of knowledge to drive national progress,” he stated, underscoring the government’s commitment to fostering intellectual growth and innovation through education.
The President described the commissioning of the three-storey Silver Jubilee Building, which includes lecture halls and offices, as a “significant milestone” that demonstrates his administration’s dedication to advancing education in the country. “This is not just a building; it symbolizes our shared vision for a brighter future and our commitment to providing quality education for all,” he remarked.
President Akufo-Addo also expressed pride in fulfilling a promise he made during UDS’s 25th-anniversary celebration in 2018, ensuring that the institution continues to thrive as a center for innovation and intellectual development.
In his message, he urged universities across Ghana to strengthen their collaboration with industry and government, ensuring that their research and teaching align with the nation’s development objectives. “Together, we are building a brighter future for Ghana, and I am confident that with continued investment in education, we can unleash the full potential of our young people and propel our country to greater heights,” he wrote on Facebook following the commissioning.
