The Ministry of Education has strongly responded to former President John Dramani Mahama’s recent comments casting doubt on the authenticity of the 2023 WASSCE results.

Mahama had alleged that invigilators were lax, allowing teachers to assist students during the exams.

In a press statement, the Ministry accused Mahama of a calculated attempt to undermine the significant progress made in improving learning outcomes, citing a rise in average scores from 40.93% in 2015 to 69.73% in 2023.

The Ministry deemed Mahama’s assertions as false and called on Ghanaians to condemn the attempt to malign teachers and students.

The statement from the Ministry of Education emphasized, “We have made monumental progress in core subjects from an average 40.93 percent score (A1 –C6) in 2015 to a highly improved average of 69.73 percent score (A1 – C6) in 2023.”

The Ministry also highlighted the record-breaking achievement of 411 out of the 465 8A1s recorded across West Africa in 2020 and 2023.

The Ministry reiterated its commitment to upholding the highest quality of education in the country, stating, “The quality of education and examinations at all levels, including the WASSCE, will not be compromised.”
