New Patriotic Party women’s wing at Effiduase-Asokore Constituency in the Ashanti Region has picked nomination forms for the MP for the area ahead of the party’s April parliamentary primaries.
The women have described as remarkable, the work done by Dr. Nana Ayew Afriyie since his election to Parliament.
According to them the transformational agenda being pursued by the ruling party is being replicated by the lawmaker, hence their desire to see him serve another term.
Motivation
Amid singing and drumming, hundreds of delegates clad in party attires, joined the women’s group as they marched to the constituency office on Monday, with some hailing Nana Ayew Afriyie for his good work so far.
One of them who identified herself as Akua Animah told Dailymailgh that she will go all out to campaign for the legislator ahead of the primaries.
“He has contributed his quota for the development of Effiduase-Asokore and it is evident. My friends and I are going all out to campaign massively for him”, she said amid shouts adding, “He will need four or more years to do more”.
Speaking to journalists after picking the forms, Patience Tiwaa Annin, a constituency women organiser indicated that their decision to fund the purchase of the forms for the MP was based on his competence and hard work.
“We the women organizers in the Effiduase-Asokore Constituency are here to pick forms for Nana Ayew Afriyie to continue his good work. We have even prepared to pay for his filing fees too. We are proud of him and he is the one we need to fight for more projects for us. So it is only good for us to support him until he becomes the parliamentary candidate”, she indicated.
She called on party supporters to tally behind the ruling government, as well as contribute their quota as the party prepares for the general elections.
Though the Member of Parliament was not in the country at the time the women purchased the nomination forms, his close associates tell Dailymailgh that he is overwhelmed and taken aback following the massive support delegates and his constituents have shown him.
Dr Nana Ayew Afriyie was elected in 2016 as Member of Parliament for the area. The medical doctor contested and beat the then sitting MP, Frank Agyei in their parliamentary primaries.
He retained the seat for the NPP with a whopping 26,574 votes in the 2016 general elections.
NPP primaries slated for April 25
The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) will hold its Presidential primaries on April 25, 2020.
The non-refundable nomination fee for aspirants has been pegged at GHc 20,000 whilst the filing fee is GHc 200,000.
The party will also be electing the remaining Parliamentary candidates on the same day.
The primaries have already been held for constituencies that do not have sitting Members of Parliament.
