Ghana’s opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has lost yet another parliamentary candidate ahead of the 2020 general elections.

The party has confirmed the death of its Ahanta West constituency parliamentary candidate, George Kwame Aboagye, on Monday, February 3, 2020.

He died at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital, according to the Western Regional Secretary of the NDC, Joe Nelson.

“Yes, we have also heard it and currently on our way to the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital to see for ourselves. However, the family is yet to officially inform the party. Therefore, I’m unable to say what exactly caused his death,” Nelson told local network Citi FM.

The late Aboagye was one time Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for the Ghana Investment Promotion Center (GIPC) under the Atta Mills administration.

He was also MP for Ahanta West in the Western Region between 2012 and 2016.

Mr. Aboagye was preparing to take back the seat from the New Patriotic Party this year before his demise.

In September 2019, the party lost Mr David Adakudugu who was representing the Umbrella Family in the Tempane constituency in the Upper East Region.

Mr Adakudugu, popularly known as “Achisco” in political circles, died in Tamale after a short illness.

He was a member of the Committee of the Defence for the Revolution and also a Mobilization staff in the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) era.
