Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Manifesto Committee, has cautioned Ghanaians against trusting the promises of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Presidential Candidate for the 2024 elections. Ankrah expressed skepticism about Bawumia’s ability to deliver on his key economic proposals, including the introduction of a flat tax rate, removal of the e-levy, expanding road infrastructure, and ensuring prudent public financial management.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s Face to Face with Umaru Sanda Amadu, Ankrah questioned Bawumia’s track record, describing him as a leader who has repeatedly failed to honor his promises. He warned the electorate of the risks associated with believing in Bawumia’s new commitments.

“You believe Bawumia at your own risk, and I want Ghanaians to know and recognize that it will be very dangerous for them to believe Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia,” Ankrah emphasized. “Because this is somebody who has consistently made promises and has not been able to fulfil them. Together with Nana Addo [President], they gave a litany of promises.”

Ankrah argued that the electorate should scrutinize Bawumia’s track record and reject his pledges, asserting that the NPP candidate has a history of making commitments that remain unfulfilled.

He further stated that trusting Bawumia to fulfill his new promises would be a gamble, urging voters to approach his proposals with caution. “This is not just about words; it’s about action and accountability,” Ankrah concluded.

Ankrah’s remarks add to ongoing political discourse as Ghana prepares for the 2024 elections, with parties and candidates under scrutiny for their policies and past performances.
