The Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference has called on political parties to maintain respect and decorum in their campaigns leading up to the December 7 elections. In a public address, the Catholic Bishops stressed the importance of all stakeholders prioritizing peace and avoiding divisive language that could harm Ghana’s democratic stability.
“We feel compelled to address all stakeholders involved in this all-important democratic exercise to emphasize our collective responsibility in ensuring a peaceful, transparent, and fair electoral process,” said Most Rev. Matthew Kwasi Gyamfi, President of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference.
As the elections approach, the Bishops urged political parties to conduct their campaigns with respect for democratic principles and individual dignity. They emphasized the need for dialogue and a focus on the common good.
“We urge all political parties to conduct their ongoing campaigns with respect for democratic values and the dignity of all individuals,” the Bishops stated. “Political discourse should be rooted in constructive dialogue and a commitment to the common good. We call on all parties to avoid inflammatory rhetoric, and to respect the laws governing elections and political conduct.”
The Bishops’ message serves as a reminder of the collective responsibility to ensure a peaceful and fair electoral process, encouraging all political players to respect the nation’s laws and democratic values.
